The Lyceum of Trikala is situated in town of Trikala in the Region of Thessaly, in central Greece. This school
welcomes students not only from the city of Trikala but also from the nearby villages.
The region is rural and its economy is based on the cultivation of cotton. Our students are over 18 years
old and they can follow three educational fields. Public higher education is divided into Universities and
Technological Education Institutes (TEI). Students are admitted to these Institutes according to their
performance at national level examinations taking place at the second and third grade of Lyceum.
The problem of our region is estimated to the low cultural, educational and economical level. In our school
we meet pupils who were born in different countries such as Germany, Albania and Romania and they have
educational and accession problems. The main problem in our school is the behaviour and sometimes the racist
problems on the emigrated pupils. Some students are from poor families and of low cultural level and they are
in the risk of school abandonment and social exclusion. We also meet pupils with special needs with problems
of learning and emotional difficulties. These students are part of population that constitutes the project, with
the intention of promoting their personal growth, professional and school development.
Our school provides education to people that had not the opportunity to follow a secondary school when they
were young due to working due to financial problems.
